Category Scenic viewpoint

Monte Faro, with an altitude of 1,187 metres, rises as one of the most prominent peaks in inland Galicia, located between the municipalities of Rodeiro and Chantada. From its summit, visitors can enjoy wide panoramic views that extend across territories of the four Galician provinces, reinforcing its scenic value and giving it both geographical and strategic importance. At the top there is a small hermitage and a recreational area, which facilitate visits and allow visitors to enjoy the surrounding natural environment.

The Monte Faro mountain range features smooth, rounded summits with moderate slopes that favour the formation of small ponds and wetland areas. Its altitude brings abundant rainfall and periodic snowfall, while the nearby valleys display a rural landscape of agriculture and livestock farming, dotted with oak groves. The combination of crops, native forests and grazing areas creates a particularly diverse natural environment of great ecological and scenic value.

In addition to its natural importance, Monte Faro also has significant archaeological and cultural heritage. The slopes contain remains of ancient settlements, and some sanctuaries preserve traces of old pagan rituals. The mountain also lies along the route of the Winter Way of the Camino de Santiago, adding a historical and religious dimension to its significance. Its easy access makes it a popular destination for hikers and visitors exploring inland Galicia.
