Ramil Rapids and Cascades

Ramil (San Martiño)
Category River / Riverside environment

The Ramil rapids and cascades are a spectacular stretch of the River Ulla, characterised by a series of small waterfalls and cascades that naturally follow one another as the river passes through the village of Ramil. This site lies at a singular point between the provinces of Lugo and Pontevedra, marking the natural boundary between the municipalities of Palas de Rei and Agolada, which reinforces its character as a shared landscape reference within inland Galicia.

In addition to the beauty of its cascades, the area stands out for its high environmental value, thanks to the presence of native forests and rich riverside vegetation that accompanies the course of the river. This well-preserved fluvial environment creates a landscape of great attractiveness, where water, stone and dense woodland form a particularly harmonious setting, highly appreciated by visitors and nature lovers alike.

A side path allows visitors to explore and enjoy the area comfortably, facilitating direct contact with the river and its waterfalls. At certain times of the year, when water levels are suitable, the Ramil rapids and cascades also become an ideal setting for outdoor adventure sports, especially kayaking.

Access from Agolada is through the parish of Ramil, making it an especially attractive place for those wishing to combine landscape, nature and outdoor activity. Overall, the Ramil rapids and cascades represent a place of great natural and scenic interest within the middle course of the River Ulla.
