Church of San Pedro de Quintillán

Lugar Quintillan, 14
Category Church

The Church of San Pedro de Quintillán is a parish church built in 1605, although it underwent significant renovations during the 18th century. This chronology places it within Galician religious architecture of the Early Modern period, in which traditional construction elements are combined with features of rural Baroque style. The building still serves its parish function and is integrated into the traditional settlement of the parish.

From a construction point of view, the walls are built in granite ashlar and rubble masonry, materials commonly used in local ecclesiastical architecture due to their durability and abundance in the region. The roof is covered with tiles arranged in two- and four-pitched slopes, a solution adapted to the climatic conditions of the area. The overall appearance is sober, typical of many Galician parish churches from the modern period.

The main façade follows Baroque stylistic language and is the most distinctive exterior element. It is simply composed and crowned by a multi-opening bell gable topped with a pinnacle, a characteristic feature of Galician rural Baroque. This front gives verticality to the structure and reinforces its presence as a religious landmark within the parish landscape.
