Ponte de San Amaro Bridge

Puente de San Amaro
Category Historic bridge

Ponte de San Amaro Bridge is located near the village of Seoane, in the parish of Meavía, within the municipality of Forcarei, very close to the remains of the former hermitage of the same name. This small traditional crossing forms part of the historic route of the Miñoto Ribeiro Way towards Santiago de Compostela, and is also linked to ancient communication routes such as the Camiño dos Arrieiros, which for centuries were used for the movement of people and goods across inland Galicia.

Built in stone and adapted to the course of the Umia River, the bridge has a simple and functional structure, typical of the traditional architecture associated with historic roads. Its proximity to the hermitage reflects the common relationship between crossing infrastructures and places of worship, which provided guidance and rest for travellers and pilgrims.

The ensemble formed by the bridge, the river and the remains of the chapel creates a site of great scenic and heritage value, where nature, history and tradition come together in a peaceful setting that preserves the memory of the ancient routes that once crossed this region.
