The Ramón María Aller Museum of Lalín, inaugurated in 1989, pays tribute to the priest, astronomer and mathematician Ramón María Aller Ulloa (1878–1966), one of the most prominent scientists in Galicia. The museum is located in Aller’s former residence, a 19th-century building that housed the first astronomical observatory in Galicia. Inside, his study, furniture and scientific instruments are preserved, together with documents, photographs and numerous books from his personal library, offering an authentic insight into the life and work of the scientist. In 2011, the historic observatory was restored with the installation of a new telescope and the rehabilitation of the original dome, preserving and reusing its original wooden structure. This intervention allowed the reactivation of night sky observations and scientific outreach activities, combining the historical legacy of the observatory with contemporary astronomical education. The restoration thus helps to keep Aller’s legacy alive and to bring astronomy closer to new generations. The museum also dedicates spaces to two other distinguished figures from Lalín: the pioneer of Spanish aviation Joaquín Loriga, whose personal belongings are displayed in the collection, and the painter Xosé Otero Abeledo, known as Laxeiro, whose work is represented in a dedicated section with pieces donated by the artist. Since 1993, the temporary exhibition hall has hosted the “Pintor Laxeiro” International Biennial in odd-numbered years, as well as exhibitions, book presentations, concerts, lectures and audiovisual screenings, creating a dynamic cultural space that combines science, art and historical memory in the heart of Lalín.
