The Hermitage of Santo Domingo stands in the surroundings of Alto de Santo Domingo, next to the N-525 road in the municipality of Dozón, and is visible both from the Camino de Santiago and from nearby mountain routes. This chapel, modest in size and sober in design, has a single nave with a rectangular apse, with stone walls reinforced at the corners by pilasters and a continuous base that emphasises its traditional character. Its lintelled doorway and the coat of arms above it, belonging to the Monastery of Oseira, are distinctive elements that link the building to the monastic history of the region, reflecting the influence of that important Cistercian abbey in the southern part of the province.
The façade is topped with a split straight pediment that serves as the base for a small metal bell gable, while small windows of traditional Galician construction open along the side walls and the apse, allowing natural light to enter while integrating the building into its rural landscape. The use of pilasters and the simplicity of its decoration reflect its role as a chapel of popular devotion and as a place of worship for walkers and local residents.
Next to the hermitage stands a stone wayside cross (cruceiro), a traditional element of the Galician religious landscape that reinforces the devotional character of the site and its function as a reference point for travellers and neighbours. Its presence, together with the chapel and the surrounding mountain landscape, makes this place a traditional landmark for travellers and pilgrims. The Santo Domingo Hermitage and Wayside Cross form a space where heritage, landscape and spirituality come together, reflecting the historical importance of pilgrimage routes and popular religiosity in inland Galicia.
