The Pazo (manor house) de Liñares, located in Lalín, is one of the most representative noble estates of 17th-century Galician Baroque architecture. It belonged to the Taboada lineage, one of the most important families in Galicia. The original construction was expanded with a chapel, workshops, ovens and sheds, all enclosed by a stone wall that defines the estate. During the 19th century the manor reached its period of greatest splendour, serving as a temporary residence for prominent figures of Galician culture such as Emilia Pardo Bazán, Ramón Cabanillas and Otero Pedrayo. The manor is also the birthplace of Joaquín Loriga Taboada, a pioneer of Spanish aviation, as well as other notable members of the family linked to historical events such as the Peninsular War. After the departure of the last Taboada family representative in the 1920s and a period of successive ownership changes that led to the building’s deterioration, the Lalín Town Council acquired the estate in 2002 with the aim of restoring it and preserving its historical and cultural value. In 2009 it was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Cultural Heritage Site) in the category of historic monument. Following a restoration process that began in 2011, the building was fully restored and reopened in 2014. The intervention recovered emblematic elements such as the rear balcony, the heraldic coats of arms of the Churruchaos, López de Lemos and Taboada families, as well as the noble interiors, including the kitchen and the paintings in the main hall. Today, the Pazo de Liñares functions as an important cultural and museum space for the Deza region. It houses the Archaeological Knowledge Management Centre, linked to the Provincial Museum of Pontevedra, where archaeological finds are displayed and catalogued. The former noble hall and other multifunctional spaces are used for cultural events, temporary exhibitions and educational activities, making the estate a place where history, heritage and cultural activity coexist in a distinguished and historic setting.
